From across the street, sitting in the window booth, the killer had watched the spectacle of Bryce giving Emily a flashy new car. Pathetic. With all his money he could have any woman he wanted. Why did he have to take her? She was not supposed to be with Bryce Carter. Anger filled him. Now that his hacking into the webcam had been discovered, he had no other means to watch her. As they drove off, he thought, I am coming for you. Soon.

Chapter 24

Bryce looked forward to weekends the most, he could spend extra time with Emily. Even though she was living with him, he could not get enough of her. He gazed at her still sleeping as he slid out of bed to go for a run. He needed to clear his head. Jim shared what he learned on the Valdosta trip. The cases were at a standstill.

Now that he knew the name of Emily’s attacker from college, he found himself thinking dark and dangerous thoughts about the surgeon. Hatred for the man who robbed her of her innocence consumed him. If this man was responsible for the other victims as well, there was no length Bryce would not go to see him punished. He had read the information on him multiple times this week and refrained from going to the hospital to kick the crap out him. He was guilty of what he did to Emily. Bryce pumped his arms and legs harder on the run back to the house.

When he returned, he saw Emily up on the terrace with her yoga mat. She liked to run during the week, but on the weekend, yoga was her preferred activity. While he should not be gawking at her like this, he could not stop himself. She was wearing a blush-colored sports bra and matching yoga pants. While she was not tall, her legs were long for her body and perfectly sculpted. She bent and stretched in the early morning light.

“Morning sunshine,” he called to her chipperly.

“I guess I did not realize how bad I had been feeling lately, this stretch feels so good.” She took a long drink from her water bottle. Bryce went to the outdoor shower and rinsed off. Emily slid up beside him pulling her yoga clothes off. There were privacy screens to shield them from prying eyes on the beach, but she was still not completely comfortable with this openness. Bryce engulfed her in his arms and planted a hard kiss on her lips. The two taking pleasure in each other. The pair exited the shower wrapped in towels and entered the bedroom through the sliding door.

They dressed quickly for the day and began making a light breakfast. Emily wanted to go for a scenic drive on the coast and enjoy her new car. She had never owned a new car and wanted to be away from the pressures of the situation she was facing. As Bryce scrambled eggs and she made toast, they talked about the idea.
